Two of Thornton’s leaders were fortunate enough to represent the United Kingdom at the recent 19th Australian Rover Scout Moot held in Fremantle, Western Australia between 30th December and 11th January.
This was the third time that Thornton had representation at an Australian Rover Moot, having previously attended events in Sydney (2006-7) and Adelaide (2010-11).
Our leaders participated in various activities whilst at the event, including sailing, cycling, Gorge and Bush walking and a 5 Day, 1600km expedition up the WA Coastline which included stops at Geraldton, Kalbarri and Monkey Mia, as well at the micro-nation of Hutt River Province.
Along with the 30 strong UK contingent, the event was attended by 18-26 year olds from all Australian states, and a strong international participation including Scouts from New Zealand, Austria, Germany, France, Finland, Sweden, Egypt, Canada and Denmark.
The next event will be held over the Christmas 2016/7 period near Melbourne, and we hope to inspire more of our present Youth Membership to attend one of these fantastic events!
